Job DescriptionPurpose of role
To lead and manage the Service Operations organisation within the designated region to ensure safe, efficient, and productive delivery of operations across the network of regional Service Centres. Proactively drive the continued improvement and efficiency of service standards in line with Company strategies and policies, safety regulations and industry best practice. Produce and manage financial budgets and forecasts to enable the delivery of annual operating plans, in line with Company strategy and objectives.
Key Activities
- Create and actively promote a culture of safety and quality as a core value in all John Crane operations, engaging with direct team and colleagues to ensure the well-being of all, and the highest possible standards of service to internal and external customers. Champion Divisional and Group initiatives to support the attainment of ESG initiatives and targets
- Ensure attainment and engagement with SLI initiatives and targets. Ensure compliance to company and regulatory HSEQ standards, and actively participate in investigations and reviews of HSEQ incidents, ensuring the identification of root causes and implementation of preventative measures. Ensure active sharing of best practice and lessons learnt within assigned region and across the global network
- Directly responsible for operational performance and operations strategy development in assigned region, (ensuring alignment with the Global Service Operations team), including the monitoring, evaluation and improvement of all aspects of the regions operational delivery
- Directly responsible for S&A Service Centre sites within assigned region, including local operational teams, facilities and infrastructure
- In collaboration with the Global Service Operations team, responsible for the development and implementation of standardised operational practices and procedures across assigned region, as well as the development and delivery of assurance and governance processes to ensure on-going compliance
- Development of accurate and reliable capacity, demand, and productivity forecasts, ensuring efficient use of capital and labour resources in order to meet cost and output budgets. Drive ERP data compliance within regional team
- Ensure the development of accurate annual operating plans and budgets. Responsible for the delivery of annual plans to ensure attainment of cost and headcount budgets within assigned operational sites.
- In conjunction with sales and finance colleagues, develop accurate proposals for capital expenditure and investments in infrastructure, technology, equipment, systems, or other assets and resources. Analyse and approve operational investments that best meet the organisations business needs
- Actively support Sales colleagues with programmes and initiatives to grow and improve service offerings and capability, in line with Company objectives
- Drive implementation and participation in John Crane Tier Review and other operational planning and improvement processes, collaborating with Sales and Customer Operations colleagues to eliminate bottlenecks, and improve the overall value stream
- Utilising tools such as Lean / 6 Sigma principles and the Smiths SES, responsible for identifying and driving to completion continual improvement initiatives and projects across assigned region. Actively participate in design and delivery of departmental and divisional Y-Tree initiatives
- Drive active management of inventory initiatives across assigned region, in line with John Crane strategy and targets
- Actively engage with direct reports to ensure training and development plans are in place throughout the regional organisation. Ensure succession plans are in place for key operational roles, and ensure suitable framework of regular engagement and support is in place with direct reports.
Key Accountability
- Highly organised and administratively efficient

- Experienced in the development and delivery of operational strategies
- Ability to make operational and commercial decisions, in line with Company DOA
- MBA or University degree in Engineering or similar
- 10+ years experience of managing delivery of aftermarket services and operations in an industrial / engineering environment
- Ability to work cross-functionally in multinational and multicultural organisation
- A strong technical knowledge of John Crane product portfolio
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Ability to lead through direction and influence in a matrix structure. The ability to effectively direct and manage performance by being a role model for others, monitoring progress in goals and behaviors and coaching others for success
- Detailed financial understanding of operational organisations. Ability to interpret financial statements and reports and take appropriate action to manage cost and output forecasts and budgets, and make / recommend decisions on investment proposals
- Experience in deployment of Lean / 6 Sigma principles and driving a culture of continuous improvement. Able to identify and support change and continuous improvement in the own and wider business environment
- Ability to engage professionally with stakeholders of all levels, internally and externally
