Consultant - Collective Impact & Innovation Expert (Phase 2)
Background
Save the Children Indonesia (SC IDN) is a thought leader organization who articulates what children say, works for them and generates evidence about what works for children in its program implementation and policy influence/advocacy. SC IDN gained the status as an Associate Member Country in November 2019. In 2021, SC IDN’s Board of Patron has approved the transformation towards a Diversified Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) business model. It is in its journey to becoming a Full Member status and contribute to Save the Children’s global target and priority of tripling impact, to achieve the 2030 ambition for children in Indonesia.
In support of this vision, SC IDN is developing an innovative approachto tripling impact, called Ecosystem Convener model, focusing on working with more partners and together creating collective impact. Ecosystem convener model will focus on developing network of partners, setting common agenda, and agreeing on collaboration roles and responsibilities to tackle challenges issues for children in Indonesia. This model will be incubated and tested for the next few years to prove its relevancies for under SC IDN’s Innovation Sandbox.
Objectives
The External Collaborator (Consultant) will report to the Senior Manager Program Implementation and work closely with teams across department in SC IDN especially Transform Hub, Sponsorship project team in Sumba, Circular Geniuses project team in Makassar, Partnership unit, Program Development & Impact unit, and MEAL unit. The Consultant is expected to lead the test & refinement of the Ecosystem Convener master concept through measurable hypotheses and timelines.
Assignment Details
Duty station : Jakarta
Supervisor : Senior Manager Program Implementation
Coordination : The Consultant will work under direct supervision of Senior Manager Program Implementation and in matrix supervision with Project Managers in Sumba & Makassar
Scope of Work
- Using the Ecosystem Convener model developed in Phase 1, lead the development of a master plan and timeline to test and refine the Ecosystem Convener model
- Lead the development of hypotheses, plans to systematically test the hypotheses, and plans to document the results & learnings in knowledge products
- Lead the iteration process to test and refine the Ecosystem Convener model, in collaboration with project managers in Makassar (Circular Geniuses) and Sumba (Sponsorship), including the design & test of the procedures, methods, and tools required to implement the model
- Lead the preparation for scaling up and finalization of the required procedures, methods, and tools
- Collaborate with project teams in Makassar (Circular Geniuses) and Sumba (Sponsorship) to align existing program design with the proposed master concept & planand throughout the test & refine phase
- Collaborate with Transform Hub to align the plans and activities with Innovation Sandbox pathway of transformation, including being actively involved in the relevant transformation working groups
- Collaborate with other SC IDN teams in National Office (especially Partnership, Program Development & Impact, and MEAL unit) and other projects throughout the assignment to align priorities, capture learnings, and share knowledge
- Facilitate discussion and workshops within the SC IDN teams to assess, design, test, and refine the model; including leading the discussion during the decision-making checkpoints
- Actively involved in the discussion in identification of relevant procedures, methods, and toolswith Save the Children global team
- Capture learnings, develop knowledge products to document the learnings, and share/disseminate the learnings to wider SC IDN teams
Deliverables
Deliverables are submitted monthly, alongside the invoice, to be reviewed and approved by the supervisor and organization.
1. Test & Refine
- Consultant workplan for Phase 2
- Monthly summary of the testing process, capturing the objectives, the activities performed, and the results
- Quarterly summary of decision-making checkpoints, to decide whether to continue, adjust, or stop sections of the test, based on the results and potential
- Refined master concept of SC IDN’s Ecosystem Convener Model, with summary of changes/revision in place
- Required procedures, methods, and tools are developed
- Knowledge products to capture the learnings are developed
- Knowledge sharing sessions are conducted
- Summary of key meetings/workshops during this stage
2. Scale Up
- Final master concept of SC IDN’s Ecosystem Convener Model, ready for scaling up and replication to wider context (note: assuming that all hypotheses are proven)
- Procedures, methods, and tools are ready to use
- A set of knowledge products capturing the learnings are ready to disseminate Summary of key meetings/workshops during this stage
Qualifications
Essential:
- A degree in relevant study, masters degree is preferred
- 8+ years of experience in product/program development in non-profit or private sector, working in international organization is preferred
- A solid understanding of innovation and how it should be applied to solve social challenges
- An understanding of concepts such as theory of change, design thinking, scientific method, action research, and impact measurements
- Adaptive thinking and a strong, critical mindset, business acumen, and presentation skills
- Highly proficient at project planning, budgeting, and oversight
- Forward-thinking and adaptable to dynamic situations, with the ability to work on tight deadlines
- Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills, both in Indonesia and in English
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and as a team member
- Self-motivated and highly flexible individual who can manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Competency in Microsoft 365 applications
Desirable:
- Previous experience as a startup founder or working in an incubator/accelerator
- Previous experience in other child-focused organization in non-profit sector
- Understanding of emerging digital technology such as AI & ML, blockchain, and sustainable tech
- Competency in quantitative or qualitative research
