This is collaboration project between Shirvano Consulting and The Circular Development Initiative. The Circular Development Initiative is a non-profit research institute that focuses on advocating a circular approach for urban and regional development.

This organization has three core activities:

• Education and promotion
• Research and consultation
• Collaboration facilitation

About the Position

Research 2 - Circular By Nature: Nurturing Circularity Through NBS

Project Aims: The increasing emphasis on nature-based solutions (NBS) is particularly relevant in urban and regional contexts, driven by a heightened awareness of the environmental impacts of current development practices and the climate crisis. Also, there is a growing focus on nature-based circularity, emphasizing the importance of the use of nature-based solutions and ecological regeneration to support circularity in cities and regions.

In Indonesia, both NBS and circularity are relatively new concepts, requiring more knowledge and experience to amplify the approach.

To address these challenges, the project focuses on reviewing and documenting nature-based practices from literature and global precedents with the purpose of creating a toolbox. Tailored to the local context, the toolbox is expected to foster the integration of nature-based solutions to a circular development in Indonesian cities and regions.

Task:

• Identify and map potential nature-based solutions to support circularity based on empirical case studies in Indonesia and globally.
• Collect supporting evidence from current scientific publications.
• Create conceptual and scientific diagrams illustrating how nature-based solutions can foster circularity.
• Report progress during weekly meetings, offering updates on the research process and findings.
• Contribute to the writing of a comprehensive report based on the research, summarizing key insights and recommendations.

Requirements:

• Education: An active university student majoring in
  • Urban and Regional Planning
  • Landscape Architecture
  • Environmental / Ecosystem Science
  • Or any relevant majors with a specialisation in green-blue infrastructure or ecosystem services planning.
• Computer Skills
  • Basic office - word, ppt, excel, etc.
  • Online meeting - zoom, teams, etc.
  • Visualisation - 3D, diagrams, graphics, maps, etc.
• Language: Fluent in English and Bahasa Indonesia
• Research Skills
  • Strong in desktop-based research and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in research data management.
  • Excellent in conceptual and scientific diagrams drawing (e.g. landscape axonometric and section)
